Pumpkin and Plum

In a world where clothing retailers have new designs every visit, where trends are blink-and-you'll-miss-it, and online shopping serves up instant gratification (even overnight shipping!) it's easy to forget what it means to be patient with fashion. Yes, we all know we're supposed to save up for investment pieces - buy fewer, better quality, more sustainable items. But as a thrifter, I'm as guilty as the Forever 21-ers when it comes to the quick thrill. I aspire to quality, but often settle when the chintzy versions are plentiful and right at my fingertips for just a few dollars...

But sometimes, sometimes, it's worth the wait. About five years ago I was reading Lucky magazine and fell in love with a stunning pair of t-straps with a retro, '70s secretary vibe. For over two years I reluctantly passed up inferior versions in pursuit of that Platonic ideal. Then, when I'd nearly given up, the pair featured in this post appeared at the thrift store and it was like Christmas morning when you're five years old.
